The weight of diamonds is measured in carats. The name "carat" has descended from the name of a tree which seeds in antiquity were used as the standard of weight (1 carat = 0,2 grams). Diamonds are subdivided by weight into three groups: fine (up to 0,29 carat.), average (from 0,30 up to 0,99 carat.), large (from 1,00 and more). Cost of a stone grows with increase in its weight. Large diamonds are used any more as an ornament, but as reliable capital investment more often.
Color of diamonds
Color of diamonds varies sharply - from colorless up to yellowy- brown. Also there are various tint - red, blue, green, pink, violet, yellow. It is considered, that white diamonds are more expensive than the others, and the most expensive - with a blue shade. Color diamonds are often in occurrence, and cost much more cheaply the colorless colleagues. For definition of color of traditional diamonds there is a special scale, where 1 - absolutely colorless stones, and 9 - with a precise yellow shade. Absolutely colorless diamonds are rare in occurrence, is more often they have an easy yellowish tint which is not noticeable to the naked eye. If you have decided to buy a diamond, it is necessary to solve, what king of stone you want to get: expensive (on a scale of color 2-4), or almost similar to it (5-6), but with more acceptable price.
Deficiency of a diamond
Deficiency of a diamond is a collective concept which characterizes a degree of cleanliness, transparency and perversity of a stone. Absolutely faultless diamond - more likely theoretical concept because the diamond, as well as all natural minerals, has any heterogeneity of a structure - cracks, inclusions, bubbles. The scale of deficiency for diamonds consists of 12 groups. Diamonds of 1-6 groups do not contain defects which can be distinguished by the naked eye. In 7 group defects are already noticeable, and to 12 groups refer the diamonds almost completely filled with dissemination. So, let’s sum up: the more weight of a diamond, the closer to 1 color and deficiency, the more unique and valuable your stone is.
